From what the mounting plate looks like, there might also be an option to mount it on traditional lock cylinders with 2-sided tape. Will it be possible to use the lock if one reduces the key size to fit the yellow ring?
From what I can see if you manage to cut your key so it fits into the yellow ring, then you should be able to enjoy ultra lock without changing the cylinder. The tricky part will probably be cutting the key so the center stays at the same spot. Did I miss anything?
This is interesting. I have a cylinder with a knob, and looking at the pictures, I think it might be possible to 3D Print the gear with a different shaped hole in the middle, that fits the knob cylinder.
Only problem would be attaching the plate to the cylinder, since the clamping mechanism like with the old nukis doesn’t exist here. Doublesided Tape might work, but might not be optimal. Alternatively it might be possible to also 3D print a different attachment plate.
I would assume that double sided tape (3M VHB) should work just fine for the “gentle” mode, not so sure about “insane” mode, as that does seem to have quite a bit more speed. I would be doing this just to reduce the noise, as that is the only thing bothering me with my current nuki, so gentle would be the only option anyway.
From what it looks like you will need to 3d print a spacer so the yellow part is at the correct height. If you have a resin printer, you might be able to do the gears as well, I don’t think you will get the necessary stability with fdm prints.
Are there any key copying services that can also cnc the key on the other side?
do you mind sharing the dimensions of the rectangular opening of the yellow plastic part? And how much it needs to stick out from the “Beschlag”. I found a company who offer cnc keys, so i want so check if they can make one for me.
Maybe we’ll see that yellow gear at least for knob cylinders for some manufacturers. Like Nuki offered before with the knob adapters. I bet the list of customers who are willing to use the Nuki universal cylinder is much smaller than the list of potential Smart Lock Ultra buyers…
Good approach, the cylinder is not an option for me either, I wrote to support in the first step but only got blabla as an answer.
I think we need technical data from the plate and the drive adapter, I currently don’t see any problem in using existing knob cylinders and key cylinders accordingly.
I will wait and see whether support provides the technical drawings or answers the questions accordingly and then we’ll see.
After receiving my Ultra, I think that we can make a base plate that is connected to the door, replacing the original door escutcheon plate and cover. The base plate that comes with the Ultra can then be mounted to this base plate, providing a solid connection without any glue.
For the gear adapter, I took some photos and placed them here:
I’m currently tinkering with how to generate/draw the gear. If someone has a good idea on how to draw this in OpenSCAD, I’d be happy for input. All the gears I’ve found so far don’t match, as the teeth of the Nuki gear seem to be very straight.
i would like to understand, why so many people have a problem with changing the cylinder ?
It comes with the ultra, and i was happy to replace my old cylinder with a high security one.
Everything works fine and it took me about 5 minutes.
3 keys are more than enough since you are buying a smart lock to never use keys anyhow.
Not only in apartment buildings: I live in a house and all locks/keys, like for the street-gate, the garage, garden-shed, the front-door, the back-door, the balcony-doors etc etc are keyed alike.
I can confirm that it works with a standard cylinder and a cut off key just fine.
I would have wished that the base plate would be with grub screws like the old nuki plates or some sort of clamping around the cylinder. I used thin double sided foam tape and all modes from gentle to insane work fine (short testing all, using gentle right now). Only downside is that I still have the rosette on the door, hence the Nuki is not totally flush.
No, because the installed cylinder is too long for that. The cylinder ends with the rosette and if you take the later off you just get a gap between the door and the Nuki. A shorter cylinder and I could install the Nuki flush on the door, which would be possible with the one coming with the Nuki lock, I just don’t want another key.
The cutoff part looks like a cut off key - I am not sure what you want to hear or expect?
