Feature Request - Apple ‌iOS 15‌ HomeKit / Home Keys in Apple Wallet feature

I’m using this solution for 2 months and its working flawless. I’m just using a rapi zero 2 and a nfc reader.
The nfc reader is outside and the pi inside. I have my nuki connected to home assistant via thread and matter and can open the door in less that 1 second.

I really hope the Apple Home Keys comes to the Nuki Pro 4.0… it could be really useful

Yes and i can confirm that we’re working on it and have some progress. As usual we won’t break any news here in the forum, but there will be some news shared on our blog over the coming weeks/months. Stay tuned.

Who would have thought. I only ask for something that is not that much visible. I don’t want to put a keypad on my door.

perfect  . If you want I can become a beta tester of this feature.

Great news! I hope this means you guys are looking to support UWB with the coming iOS 18 update

Yeah, if I was in the market I’ll definitely get that over the Nuki. Homekeys are a dream.

However after investing and building my own Homekey solution to work with Nuki, I have less desire to get U200.

Still, with the MQTT/Wifi drop off issues may get to me and can give up and get U200 and sell my Nuki.

Yes I found a temp solution but having double notifications on my ATV, iPhone and other devices are a pain.

I think that implentation of UWB (less likelyj) could save you from a much cheaper rival …

The Nuki Ultra is out and still the same thing. What is happening here. I really don’t know.

We currently don’t support Apple Home Keys or “tap to unlock” in our products, but we support the industry initiative Aliro, which aims to standardize “tap to unlock” across all major phone brands. We plan to have a Keypad with Aliro support when the standard will be officially released later in 2025. Sign up for our newsletter to stay up do date with all Nuki news.

What about this then…

I hope you will also support unlocking with UWB, once the standard arrives, not only tap to unlock with NFC. NFC would be a step back.

They’re saying no uwb support, only NFC

So I assume there is no hardware onboard the Ultra to support Aliro / Homekeys? It’s disappointing and certainly a “compromise” that a keypad will be required.

Anyhow - will the new keypad only support tap to unlock / Aliro equivalent, or will it support Homekey UWB “approach to unlock”/the Aliro equivalent?

I’d think tap to unlock on the Ultra won’t make too much much sense as the device is on the inside of the door and NFC will not be usable through the door.
So moving this to the outside (keypad) sounds like a good approach.

The good approach would have been developing an external machined case for the outdoor keyhole with the NFC and UWB embedded into it and connected to the inside, like the level locks.

@tobii Exactly.

NFC by is definition very limited regarding the supported distance even in direct eye-sight
and not talking about a door in-between.

We generally don’t comment on our future roadmap here. But as @Stefan_Reiterer mentioned before we plan to have a Keypad with Aliro support in 2025.

That probably might be an option for US but I don’t think this would be possible with european cylinders.
Also the position (vertical height) for NFC would be a bit weird for european doors as the door knob would then be directly above which might make it hard to use it especially with a watch.

You can embed NFC right on the keyhole chasis, as I said like on the level locks. I just don’t want a keypad on my door.

I’m excited about the Ultra—it looks fantastic, is quieter (based on Youtube), and faster. However, the lack of UWB hardware at this price point feels like a big missed opportunity.

@MatthiasK While I understand the constraints of NFC, the absence of UWB/approach-to-unlock functionality is harder to accept. A separate keypad just to add this feature seems unnecessary and complicates the setup (extra battery, clutter, etc.). Integrating UWB directly into the lock would offer a much cleaner, superior experience—especially since many people aren’t allowed to or don’t want to install devices in shared hallways / on the exterior of their homes that show that they have a smart lock.
