after upgrading to latest firmware the I am getting an announcement from the app that asking me if I am near the door when i am actually in my house , once it actually opened while I am in my house , by the way it happened from two different iPhones
Please contact our support via https://nuki.io/en/support-request/ or contact@nuki.io as this is an individual problem and might require sharing logs and other sensitive data.
@gilitg1 - did you get an useful response from the support team?
Me and my wife had an even more surprising experience .
Pls refer to my post “Nuki 2.0 opened door when 60 km out of bluetooth range”
I didn’t get (until today) a response whatsoever. My decision is to deactivate “Auto unlock” and cancel all timers in “Scheduling” switch “night Mode” on and have the door locked with my hardware key until I return from holiday.
I had a similar experience. I had my cell phone in my pocket and I accidentally opened the door. It is a pity, that there is no secure pin or FaceID required, when one wants to open without bluetooth connection. For me, this is a serious security flaw.
I also have seen such a event yesterday. I unlocked the door via the app, because my Galaxy S10 hasn’t updated the GPS data yet, so I weren’t in the geofence. I went in an suddenly after about 5 Minutes (maybe because my phone updated GPS then) the door unlocks when i’m actually 2 rooms away (about 10-11m with walls and doors between ) from the door. Maybe something is wrong in the order of the events, so maybe when bluetooth nearby-signal was detected before, the GPS geofencing can after that also trigger the auto unlock. I think also such a event should not happen, since you can always be in the geofence by accident when you actually dont want the door to open. Don’t know when one of the event-trigges times out or something. However I’ve disabled the Auto Unlock at the moment since this is actually as @Max1 said a security flaw.
For me, on android, its the other way around.
When I am far from my home, and not in range of the geo fence, i would normally get an message, asking me if I surely want to open the door since I am not in range… now there is no more warning, it will just open the door. Thats quite bad if u hit the open button by mistake… However I dont bother to contact the support… as still no reply for my other issue
Yes, this happens when your geolocation on your device is flipflopping between being in and outside of the defined geofence, AND your device being close enough to reach the lock via Bluetooth.
Sequence of events is:
- Geolocation on device updates to a location being outside of the geofence. (Your device tells the Nuki app that it is somewhere away from the lock.)
- Geolocation on device updates to a location being inside of the geofence. (Your device now tells the Nuki app that it is close to the lock. This can have various causes like GPS signal getting acquired, or connecting to Wi-Fi).
- Because you went from outside the geofence to inside, Auto-Unlock kicks in and tries to unlock the door via Bluetooth. If your phone is in BT range of the lock, the Auto-Unlock succeeds and the lock opens. (If your phone is outside of BT range, Auto-Unlock does not succeed as it can’t reach the lock. If you have a Nuki Bridge, and somehow confirm the unlock prompt on your phone, Auto-Unlock will happen via the Nuki Bridge.)
In my case, Google Maps would flip between showing me at home, and showing me in the town centre, about 1Km away. After repeatedly submitting reports to Google that the “blue dot” was in the wrong place, the issue was eventually fixed.
So the thing to check here is: Which location does your device think you’re in? (Check Google Maps or similar to see where they place you on the map.)
Thank you for explanation. I thought the auto unlock would only unlock if I’m actually really near the nuki. Like the blueetooth connection must not only be established but also quite strong. But maybe the establishment itself is the indicator for opening.

I also faced it sometimes, that my device, or google maps , thought I’m out of the geofence when I’m actually inside while the dot is blue (not grey to maybe indicate that it is not sure about location)

The ‘Unlock Speed’ setting in the Expert settings of the app allows you to set which signal strength you want. The default is “as soon as the lock is visible via Bluetooth”. Bluetooth signal range varies from device to device, but can be up to 100 metres if no obstacles are encountered.
