Nuki Ultra unreliable opening (latch)

Hi,

got my Nuki Ultra today. Installation went flawlessly. Only concern so far is the reliability of pulling the latch. Out of 10 times opening the latch (door is unlocked) the door opens only about 7 of 10 times (doesn’t matter if I pull it via the app or Home Assistant via Matter). Seems like it’s sometimes pulling the latch not far enough. I already recalibrated but to no effect. I had a Smart Lock 4 Pro before that didn’t have this problem.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Have you tried the different speed modes?

No, it’s on “insane” right now and I didn’t try the other ones. But that should probably work with all speed modes, right?

Ok I now tried it on “standard” 4 times and it didn’t open the door 4 times. Now back on “insane” it worked on the first 6 times, then 4 times with no door opening.

I also didn’t tighten the screws like a madman, they are tight but surely not over-tightened. I tried opening and closing the universal cylinder with a key (when the lock was not yet attached) and it all went smoothly with no force being needed.

@Juergen Just got home from work, Auto Unlock fortunately worked and unlocked the door “insanely” fast, but the door stayed closed because the latch wasn’t pulled far enough again. :rage:

What else can I do to debug?

For the time being you can only make sure that the door opens as easily as possible and nothing is preventing the Smart Lock from pulling the latch. Make sure the batteries are fully charged. And install the latest firmware. If it helps pull the door while the Smart Lock unlatches.

You might already sign up for beta as well. Right after the christmas holidays we will start looking into this and changes usually come in form of beta releases first.

Ok, thanks. But I can’t register under this link:

I only get this:

I’ve also upgraded to the Nuki Ultra, moving from the Smart Lock 2.0, and I’m experiencing a similar issue with the latch not pulling far enough to reliably open the door. Recalibrating hasn’t resolved the problem for me either.

In addition to the latch issue, I’ve noticed a significant performance difference compared to my previous Smart Lock 2.0. Specifically, when my door is fully locked (720° with 2 rotations), the Ultra often fails to open it. My door can be a bit tricky, as it requires a slight press or pull to facilitate locking past the first rotation. Despite this, the 2.0 had no issues opening the door with the full two rotations, whereas the Ultra seems to get stuck at the first rotation and can’t complete the process.

I had high expectations for this upgrade, but these issues have left me considering whether I should return the lock and stick to the 2.0.

Thanks for confirming the latch issue. I’m 100% sure I did nothing wrong during installation and feared I was the only one with that problem. But I guess there are not so many Ultras out there yet.

Have the same problem. Smart Lock Pro worked before without any problem.

I got it working! I sprayed WD-40 inside the lock mechanism (with the cylinder removed) and pressed the knob a few times. This made the lock operate more smoothly, requiring less force. After that, the Nuki Ultra was able to open the lock successfully (insane speed).

Tried it too with WD-40, worked for 2 days then same problem again. If there’s no Beta coming out before my return period ends, that fixes this I’ll have to send it back. I maybe will try it again in a few months.

WD40 isn’t permanent because it’s not an oil. I’d rather take Ballistol (resin-free gun oil), preferably a little bit of grease on the wedge of the cylinder that comes into contact with the lock. And a little bit of grease on the lock nose and latch, that works wonders. Wipe off the excess fat.

I thought so. I gave it a try with Ballistol. Lubricating the lock made Insane speed quieter

I removed some dampening material from my door. We’ll see if it helps. But still a bummer, because it worked flawlessly with the last Nuki as well as one from another company.

You mean the universal cylinder? Where exactly did you put the Ballistol? Making insane a bit more quiet would definitely help.

Isn’t using silicone spray better than using oil?
