Nuki setup for holiday apartment without app usage

Hello everyone,

I’m planning to use Nuki for my holiday apartment, but I’m unsure which components I need. Could someone please confirm if my understanding is correct?

Here’s the situation: The apartment is in a multi-family building with a BITICINO intercom system that allows the main entrance downstairs to be opened via the intercom. The apartment door upstairs is a standard door. Here’s what I’d like to achieve:

  • The main entrance door downstairs should be opened using the Opener with the “ring to open” function (without the app).
  • The apartment door upstairs should be opened using the Keypad 1 (mounted in the door frame) and the Nuki 4th Gen Pro.

I would prefer not to rely on an app, as this is for a holiday apartment, and I’ve noticed that older guests in particular often have trouble installing apps or may not have a smartphone.

So, in summary and in my opinion the Setup should be:

  • 1x Nuki 4th Gen Pro
  • 1x Keypad 1
  • 1x Opener

My questions are:

  • Do I need a Bridge for this setup, since the Nuki 4th Gen Pro has WLAN? If I decide to use the app later, would I then need a Bridge for that?
  • Can the compatible PMS systems generate a code for the apartment door (via the keypad), or is the code only for app-based access? Does this need a Bridge?

I hope my questions are clear, and I look forward to your feedback.

Hello @Gianni,

yes, your proposed setup fits your requirements.

  1. No, you don’t need to have a Bridge as the 4th Gen Pro of the Smart Lock has WiFi included.

  2. You would need a Bridge if you want to control / allow unlock the Opener from remote as well. But since you plan for Ring to Open that covers for use case.

  3. Without the concrete Bticino model it’s hard to say if your setup works for ring to open. Feel free to get in touch with our support team for additional assistance here.

  4. For PMS please refer to our Smart Hosting service. Also there, you don’t need a Bridge but can use the 4th Gen Pro with the included WiFi to control your Smart Lock.

  5. Using the Nuki App can be done purely locally (e.g. via Bluetooth). If you want to control
your Nuki devices from remote please refer to 1) and 2).

Hope that this clarifies for questions. Feel free to contact our support team for further information.

Have a great day!
