Nuki Bridge 2.0 Errorcode 15 WiFi broken

My Nuki Bridge 2.0 (or whatever the revised Hardware Revision from 2019 is being called) running Firmware 2.14.0 lost the WiFi connection. After a reboot it didn’t reconnect so I started the Nuki App to manage the Bridge.
The App reports that the Bridge is broken and Reports Errorcode 15. After several retries I can manage the Bridge and it looks like it doesn’t find any WiFi Networks anymore at all. A factory reset didn’t help at all.

Is there a bug with the Hardware of the Espressif ESP-WROOM-32 inside the bridge or a problem with the WiFi Firmware?

Error Message in German: "Diese Nuki Bridge ist leider defekt und muss ausgetauscht werden. Bitte wende dich an den Nuki Support. Fehlercode: 15.

Any ideas what Error 15 means?

For me too: Fehler 15 / Error 15 with my nuki bridge. thats crap :frowning:

Nuki refuses to replace the product, this is obviously a software bug, not a hardware one.
I informed the seller (Tink) about that procedure and think it was my last nuki.
The original lock is already replaced, i used the Bridge with the Smartlock 3.0, which i bought 3 months ago at Amazon, luckily, i am able to return that crap.

nearly 3 Years of nuki seem to be enough.

This assumption is wrong. It’s a hardware defect and can’t be fixed with a software update.

That’s discussable. I will open it and extract the firmware and compare it with a brand new one.
But still: multiple customers are affected by this bug, which occurred in three cases ±7days
Planned obsolescence?

Then let us know what exactly is broken.
What does Error 15 means? Which component failed?
The Bridge consists of an ESP32: is there a Problem with this Part?
Maybe something in Common?
How comes so many brigdes fail at more or less the same time? Bad component or failed Firmwareupdate?

Most likely a problem with the power unit (transformer).

“Many” is relative. It’s 3 out of a 6digit installed base.

I connected an usb-to-serial-adapter to the serial pin header on the nuki bridge and here’s what it shows.
Looks like a boot loop.
Can you tell whether your assumption on a broken transfomer is right or not from this output please?

A boot loop is what you usually see when an energy source does not deliver enough power to a circuit. So yes, still points to a defective transformer. You can simply replace the integrated transformer with any other 5V power source.

This means, this is a 5 volt transformer with 1amp current.
That cheap china transformer caused those errors?


That’s a bit below that 5 volts, indeed.
Anyhow, USB (best source for stabilized 5 volt power supply) does work

Cheap parts means more complaints.

So, finally:

In case you are also suffering from the cheap power supply:
SMTSD S05P7-05W
There is a replacement/part by mean well (also manufacturing in china, but they’re known for power supplies.

So I would rather recommend to replace the power supply with:
Mean Well IRM-05-5 | 5VDC | 1A | 5W


Size of the old and new one for comparison.

The next steps are: Unscrew the plug, remove it from the old PSU and attach new wires.
The mean Well PSU might not fit perfectly in that plastic cage, but you can trim the the excess plastic with a plier.


Consider to use heat shrink! I mean, we are dealing with 230V AC.

Thanks to your tutorial I fixed mine.

I used an iPhone usb charger and a simple old usb cable for power only. The iPhone charge was 5 V 1 Amp, so it matches the transistor.

I cut the transistor cables red and black. I cut the usb cable.

According to this image the left core of the usb connector has to be connected to the black cable.

With a multimeter checked which core matches the left core of the connector

Next I wired black to the left. Red to the right. And supplied the power.

Now it works. I don’t think I buy a replacement transistor, just soldering and isolate the connected wires and put it in a fire proof case. Don’t need that button that much.

Just had my Bridge 2.0 stop working here as well. I got “error 12” but the fault source is the same, the power supply blew up:


(Note the nice cap imprint on the piece of plastic that got blown off.)

Result: The transformer is no longer supplying the necessary 5VDC for the ESP32 to function.
