Sounds like the lock is calibrating itself after changing the batteries. Mine does the same but maybe a bit shorter

Yes - The provided video shows that the Smart Lock performs first a position run, which is executed after you insert the batteries. After the actual movement is completed the main motor of the Smart Lock is additionally turned freely for 20s for maintenance purposes.
