I was asked by Nuki Support to post my question here because the couldn’t answer it.
I have successfully set up my Nuki with MQTT in our IOT wlan and integrated into my our nodered based home automation.
Everything seems to be working exactly as I want for now and the lock is doing exactly what we need the smart-lock to do.
What concerns me is the following warning in your MQTT manual:
“The reconnect mechanism for the Smart Lock 3.0 WiFi connection is bound to a successful connection to the Nuki server. i.e. you can not isolate the Smart Lock from the internet as this will lead to reconnect attempts involving WiFi log off/ons with exponentially growing downtimes in between, which will also lead to disconnects of the MQTT connection. Likewise an unstable internet connection can lead to MQTT reconnects and downtimes”
Is this bug still present in the “Nuki Smart Lock Pro (4. Generation)” that I bought?
If so, what is the timeline for fixing it?
Should I worry about the long term feasibility of depending on it continuing to stay connected to the IOT wlan?
For security reasons our IOT wlan doesn’t allow devices to phone home. And we avoid any smart devices that have to phone home to function.
Just a follow up confirming that it has failed. Which is a real shame because the Nuki lock is actually quite good at locking/unlocking the door. And as long as I was connected to it over bluetooth it worked perfectly in our mqtt setup. But as soon as a disconnected from it the connection drops started to happen and became longer and longer.
Having to let it spy on us in order to use it is a deal killer and makes the lock not suitable for it’s intended purpose. We’ll have to return it.
you are quoting an outdated version of the MQTT API, please refer to the most recent version of the MQTT API specification where this point actually got removed since the Smart Locks shall be capable of keeping the MQTT API active even without an active internet connection.
I’ll reach out to you via DM for further troubleshooting.
