[Feature Request] Desirable integration into Unifi Access

Product name

Nuki Ultra + Nuki Pro

Summary

Collaboration with Ubiquiti / Unifi Access to integrate Nuki into Access.

The concrete suggestion is that Nuki enter into dialogue with Ubiquiti to explore an official third‑party integration of Nuki devices into UniFi Access. UniFi already cooperates with third‑party hardware in other product areas.

Features

  • Centrally managed access schedules and granular access policies in UniFi Access

  • Lock and unlock Nuki via UniFi Access readers.

  • Evacuation and lockdown triggers mapped to defined lock states

  • Central display of lock state and battery status of Nuki in the UniFi web interface, including low‑battery alerts via the UniFi alarm manager.

  • Easier provision of access authorizations without requiring employees to install an additional app on their cell phones.

Reason

At present, basic control of Nuki via Accesss/webhooks is possible, but this is cumbersome and functionally limited. In practice, users often still require the Nuki app on their smartphones, which increases administrative overhead and partially bypasses UniFi Access’s central user and policy management.

From a market perspective, such an integration could accelerate Nuki’s expansion in the US and be an additional growth driver in the European market. UniFi Access is a scalable, licence‑free, and rapidly growing platform with very attractive per‑door costs compared to traditional access control systems (e.g. ASSA ABLOY, dormakaba, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Allegion) – even when including a Nuki Ultra.

Examples

This topic is particularly relevant for retrofits in existing buildings. Many companies and organisations now require higher security standards at and within their buildings. Accordingly, electrically controlled doors with standards-compliant deadbolt locking, emergency exit functionality, and clearly defined access policies are needed. Nuki Ultra and Nuki Pro meet these requirements very well in many scenarios.

By way of background: in our own environment, we had to retrofit sensitive doors with Nuki in addition to an existing UniFi Access system in order to meet insurance‑driven security requirements outside regular working hours (e.g. double locking). Native integration would simplify day‑to‑day operations, improve the user experience, and significantly reduce administrative effort
