App stuck in "Connecting" when switching from 5G to Wi-Fi – Feature request for auto reconnect

Hi everyone,

I noticed a connection bug with the Nuki app that happens frequently when I arrive at my door:

  • I open the app while on my mobile 5G network. The app starts trying to connect to the opener and shows “Connecting…”.
  • When I come close to home, my phone automatically connects to the home Wi-Fi network.
  • But the app stays stuck on “Connecting…” and never switches to “Online”.
  • Only after I completely close and reopen the app does it instantly show “Online”.

It would be great if there was a feature for automatic reconnect in such cases. For example, an “auto reconnect” setting that would:

  • Detect if the network changes (like from 5G to Wi-Fi) while in the “Connecting” state.
  • After a configurable wait time (e.g., 5 seconds idle), automatically restart the connection process or restart the app internally.
  • This way, users wouldn’t have to manually force-quit the app every time this happens.

This would greatly improve usability and reduce frustration at the door. Has anyone else experienced this? Would the Nuki team consider adding such an “auto reconnect” feature?

Thanks for reading and looking forward to your feedback!

Mainly this happens on IOS but the solution would also help on android I guess.

Hi,

thanks for your message! Just one question: did this occurr on Android or iOS?

I’ll forward this information to our App developers and we’ll work on this topic to improve the reconnection in the future.

Therefore, please make sure to keep your app up to date and follow the future beta version announcements!
