Allow Keypad PIN code management through Matter

Product name

Nuki Ultra Lock US Version

Summary

Home Assistant 2026.4 is releasing an option to allow control of the lock via a Manage Lock option. Through some discovery, this is not enabled in the lock via the firmware so it is not available in Home Assistant.

Features

Enable management via Matter

Reason

To allow more functionality via Matter. This explains it better:

NOTE: This version goes live April 1st but is available publicly early as part of their beta program.

Examples

How would you like to use this feature?
Assign temporary access to users via Home Assistant for example. From their page:

On the device page of your Matter lock, you’ll find a new Manage lock option. It opens a dialog where you can see all configured users, add new ones, edit existing ones, or remove them. When adding a new user, you give them a name, set a PIN code, and choose an access type: full access (can lock and unlock anytime) or one-time access (the code works once and is then automatically deleted by the lock).

I renamed this feature request from “Allow Manage Lock option for Matter and Home Asssistant” to “Allow Keypad PIN code management through Matter”, because this resamples in a better way what this is all about.

Just as a side note: Matter currently does not support alphabets for PIN codes. i.e. a lock can not tell the matter controller which characters are allowed in a PIN code and there is no specific error message for not allowed characters in a PIN. Nuki Keypads do not have a “0” which leads to a very poor user experience when a code with “0” is entered.
