LED stays permanently on

Smart Lock Pro, firmware 5.9.4.

When the knob is turned by hand all the way to the mechanical stop in the open direction, the LED ring stays permanently lit. It stays on for as long as the knob is left in that position - hours, in my case.

An unlock command from the app while in this state reports success but does not move the motor, and the LED stays on.

Turning the knob back just a few degrees switches the LED off immediately.

My door has a lift-up handle and the cylinder cannot pull the latch at all, so there is no spring to return the knob. It simply stays where it was left, which is probably why the LED stays on indefinitely instead of briefly.

For comparison, I have a Smart Lock Ultra on a door where the cylinder does pull the latch. Turning that knob to the stop lights the LED too, but the latch spring pushes the knob back a few degrees on release and the LED goes out by itself. So the difference seems to be purely whether something returns the knob, not the lock model.

I do not recall seeing this on 5.7.x, only since updating.

Should the LED stay lit indefinitely in that position, or should it time out?

Make sure that your lock is configured correctly:

Thanks. The door fitting is set correctly: “Lift-up handle”, and when the app
asked whether I need a key to open the unlocked door from the outside, I
answered no. So the lock is configured to unlock only and never pulls the
latch, and that part does work as intended - it does not try to unlatch on
its own.

The LED only stays lit when the knob is turned by hand all the way to the
mechanical stop. Configuration does not change that.

So the LED appears to follow the knob position at the end stop, regardless of
how the lock got there or how it is configured. It goes out the moment the
knob is moved back a few degrees, and on my other door the latch spring does
that automatically.

Is the LED supposed to stay lit for as long as the knob rests in that
position?
